History of the Company

The Company was founded in November 1985 with the aim of providing air transportation for passengers and freight in continental Ecuador and the Galapagos Archipelago. We started operations with 2 Dornier DO-28-D2 aircraft with capacity for 12 passengers each.

Between 1993 and 1995 we changed our fleet to 3 Fairchild F-27 aircraft with capacity for 40 passengers and the routes operated were Quito, Cuenca, Lago Agrio and Coca. In the late nineties, the Directorate of Civil Aviation (DAC) certified standards AEROGAL under 121, giving us the Air Operator Certificate AGL - 12 1-004.

In 2002, AEROGAL acquired its first Boeing 727-200 Advance of U.S. origin with a capacity for 149 passengers. Shortly after we were issued the authorization to operate the Quito-Guayaquil route 3 times per day. A year later we added a second airplane, the first Boeing 737-200 able to carry 118 passengers.

In late 2003, we expanded our routes as we were given the concession to fly to the island of Baltra in the Galapagos and we became the first private airline to operate the route with 5 weekly flights. In June 2004 we added a new B 737-200 aircraft with capacity for 129 passengers and a month later add a third aircraft of the same type to operate the Quito-Cuenca route.

During
2005 we added another B 737-200 and in January 2006, one more. A few months later, in May 2006, the Civil Aviation Council awarded us the grant for operating international flights in the region CARSAM and North America. After that concession, 3 more aircraft were incorporated increasing the fleet of AEROGAL to 9 aircraft.

On 24 July 2006, we started our international operations with regular flights to the airport "El Dorado" in Bogota. And, on August 3, start a flight to Medellin.

In November 2008, our first Boeing 757 arrived to cover the route to Miam which we started on 7 December of that year. In this year, 2009, we have added a new Boeing 737 and now we have a fleet of 11 aircraft.

AEROGAL currently offers 6 internal destinations: Quito, Guayaquil, Cuenca, Manta, Baltra and San Cristobal. And, three international: Bogotá, Miami and New York.
