Portoviejo

Until recently, Portoviejo was only known for its tuna fishing, the production of vegetable oil, and the famous "Panama hats". Today, the visit of cruise ships, the aerial base rented to the US Air Force for anti-narcotics operations, and the construction of modern hotels, have transformed the city into an important tourist destination. Many foreigners have chosen Portoviejo and the nearby Crucita town as a place of their retirement.

Ecuador

Ecuador is the smallest of the Andean countries, covering an area only slightly larger than the UK. But despite its diminutive size, the country is packed with dramatic scenic contrast, encompassing snow-capped volcanic peaks; palm-fringed beaches lapped by the warm Pacific, and the steaming tropical rainforest of the Amazon basin.

Quito

Set at an altitude of 2800m in a valley at the foot of the soaring Pinchincha volcano, the Ecuadorian capital has a beautiful old colonial quarter of narrow streets lined with exquisite churches, monasteries and mansions that warrant a day or two of exploration. The modern new town is packed with hotels, restaurants, tour companies and other useful facilities, and makes a convenient place to recuperate between trips around the country.

Guayaquil

Guayaquil will probably become your favourite place in Ecuador. The eyes of the world are currently watching this dynamic city since it underwent major renovation. Guayaquil is known as the "Pacific Pearl" and has undergone a city-wide, 12 year long renewal programme including the opening of new tourist views of the wide and beautiful harbour along the Guayas river.

Galapagos

Lying almost 1000 km (90 minutes flight) east of Ecuadorian mainland, the extraordinary Galapagos Islands – which inspired Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution – are Ecuador’s best known attraction, home to unique, abundant and virtually fearless range of wildlife including marine iguanas, giant tortoises, whales, dolphins, sea lions, penguins and boobies.

Cuenca

Set amid the gender mountain scenery of the Southern Sierra, Cuenca is Ecuador’s most captivating city, graced with elegant colonial architecture including glorious churches and monasteries. It is also within easy striking distance of the ruins of Ingapirca, Ecuador’s only major Inca site, as well as the starkly beautiful wilderness of Parque Nacional El Cajas, which offers excellent hiking and trout fishing.

Manta

If your trip is for rest and relaxation, the beaches of Manta are the ideal destinations to visit in Ecuador.
